Getting our bearings and enjoying what is all around us

So, I know that everything looks easy and smooth sailing now, but we still have no real water system and Luca is beside himself with exhausted laughter because he has just accidentally embraced us with the poop gloves we use when we have to empty the black water into a transport container to heft up many stairs to where the toilet *should* be except someone stole it, so we have to use painstaking precision to access the septic system through the hole in the floor and now our son is touching us with possible remnants of caca.  No one can say we don't know how to roll with a situation. Rancho beautification day!  We go around to collect garbage, clean out the car, check water stores, trim back spiny plants, and put the plastic baby head back at the gate where she is supposed to greet any random visitors who head our way.  (ha ha ha my accidental puns crack me up.) Luca and I get to the beach at least once a day.  Maybe more if we get to take the neighbors' sweet pups f...

Our rugged, magical, desert, Baja home!

We always think it is a whale tail welcoming us to La Paz, but it is actually 2 doves, signs of peace, appropriate for the capital city named as such.     Here it is!  The moment we've all been waiting for!  We have reached our property!  And actually made it in.  It used to be a tiny 2 lane road that wound by our driveway.  Now it is a slick 4 lane highway with a cement divider, fast traffic, and metal guardrails that left quite a small opening for the truck + 27' to maneuver in.  Luckily there was even time for me to jump out and open the gate before Max made the turn in. Luca immediately found a coil of barbed wire he will joyfully incorporate into the trenches he plans to dig all over the property.   The absolute first thing we did was start building a firepit from the stack of stones leftover from columns on the palapa 20 years ago.  We found 2 mice, a scorpion, a snake, and a bunch of little brown lizards. It is...

San Ignacio --> Ciudad Constitución --> almost home, I swear!

So close!  But slowing down more and more as we get further south. Baja lulls. Everything about it seems to whisper patience. Deserts are in no rush; the waves that have been rolling for time immemorial will continue to do so forever; the rocky escarpment of the Sierras stands infinite + proud; + the sun keeps rising + shining regardless of my little human agenda.   We stayed at the RV park/hotel/restaurant Rice & Beans in San Ignacio.  We've stopped here for some excellent meals in the past but this time we were happy to have a sweet, level spot to just stop and sleep.   The long stay in Greensboro while we fixed the hub ate into Max's PTO so he set up this little "office" to catch up before having to jump back into professional life.  Not a bad cubicle, honestly.   Luca enjoyed these stairs to nowhere.  Though, not as much as he enjoyed chatting with the chickens on the other side of the fence up the hill.  He just...
